Power of attorney

Foreigners in Turkey may grant powers to anyone (an agent or attorney-in-fact) to act on their behalf as principal. According to Turkish law, a power of attorney is an official document: it must be prepared by a Notary Public, and the principal must sign it before the notary. If the foreigner giving the power of attorney does not know Turkish, a duly sworn translator of the notary public must accompany them during the procedure and translate the power of attorney to the principal.

What you need, and what we do

  • A power of attorney for use in Turkey must be executed before a Turkish notary public, in Turkish.
  • If you do not speak Turkish, the notary will not proceed without a sworn interpreter present. We attend the appointment with you.
  • Bring your passport; its notarized Turkish translation is required at every notary. We prepare it in advance so the appointment is done in one visit.
  • Tell us who the attorney-in-fact is and what the power is for (property sale, bank, lawsuit, company); the notary drafts the text accordingly and we translate it for you before you sign.
  • A power of attorney can be granted from abroad at a Turkish consulate, or by a person already in Turkey at any notary; we advise which is faster for your case.
  • We can courier the notarized power of attorney to your attorney-in-fact in Turkey, or to you abroad, at affordable international rates.
